An Apex Shard is an enemy found in Kingdom Rush: Vengeance, first encountered in the Frozen North level Frozen Rapids.
Overview
An Apex Shard does not normally spawn like other enemies, it can only be encountered through three means:
- Defeating an Apex Stalker will result in it spawning a single Apex Shard.
- Alternatively, they can be summoned one by one by an Ice Witch.
- Lastly, any soldier killed by an Ice Reaper will spawn an Apex Shard.
Like the Apex Stalker, they have high magic resistance and fast movement, but unlike those, Apex Shards deal little damage.
Strategy
- Apex Shards have high Magic Resistance so don't rely on Magic Towers, and their fast speed means they will out run most Artillery Towers.
- Use Barracks or Demon Goonies to delay the Apex Stalker or Ice Witch to prevent any spawned Shards from leaking through to the exit. An Ice Witch engaged in combat cannot summon Shards, so make sure you delay her as long as possible to prevent extra unnecessary enemies.
- Consider upgraded Bone Flingers to both delay and damage them.
- Apex Shards are overall easy to defeat if you have sufficient defenses, and are not a huge threat compared to the Stalkers and Ice Witches they come from. Try to defeat any Ice Witches first, then worry about the Shards.
- The Melting Furnace is a good way to deal with them since it deals a good amount of damage and it stuns them for a brief moment.
