Smokebeard Engineers are dwarf mechanics capable of repairing destroyed dwarven robots on the battlefield.
Skillful engineers that repair and maintain complex machines in the blink of an eye.
Smokebeard Engineers are moderately armored and durable enemies most notable for their ability to repair disabled Chomp Bots and MechaDwarves, restoring their wreckages to full HP for the former and about 1/4 HP for the latter, giving them a second chance to reach the exits and forcing the player to kill them again. Smokebeard Engineers cannot use this ability when blocked. If they are killed, stunned or forced into combat while repairing a machine, the machine will automatically be destroyed.
- Use high-level magic towers or high-leveled Shadow Archers to effectively take them down as well as any revived machines.
- Try to keep them away from Chomp Bots and especially MechaDwarf MK.9s. It is highly recommended to use Demon Goonies to block them, as it prevents them from reviving Machines and getting near disabled machines.
- Take advantage of the fact that the machine they're repairing will be destroyed instantly and give gold if they get interrupted. If they start repairing a MechaDwarf MK.9, try to use an Ultimate, send in Goonies or move a barracks rally point to force the engineer into combat which will permanently nullify the MechaDwarf threat and give you its gold immediately.
- If the player has the Melting Furnace, it will be an effective counter to them. Due to the stun stopping the repair and immediately destroying the machine they were repairing, it can neutralize their most threatening ability provided that they're within range of the furnace. Furthermore, it will cause any Chomp bots it destroys to instantly break apart and prevent them from being repaired.
