"After several days of travel, we have arrived at our capital city of Linirea. The time has come to make a stand, and defend Linirea's southern walls.
In addition to your highly experienced units, the King adds two units to your batallions(sic). The Arcane Wizards will provide superior firepower, and the pious Paladins will inspire the troops with their bravery."

The Citadel is the sixth level in the game comprised of seventeen waves and the first to feature a Boss. The player starts with 700 Gold and fifteen Strategic Points to build on. Unlike any other level to date, this scenario features seven Imperial Guards divided into three squads covering the most important choke points. The map features four points of entry; two to the west and the east, each leading enemies along the respective side routes, and two to the south leading through the central route passing the first line of defence on both sides.

Strategy

General[]

  • This level introduces you to the first heavily armored enemy in the game - Dark Knight (80% armor). Using magic damage to fight them is absolutely necessary.

Upgrades and Hero[]

  • Arcane Shatter can help towers with physical damage contribute to killing armored enemies (decreases enemy’s armor by 3% with each attack). This would let you build less Mage Towers to pass the level.
  • Gerald Ligthseeker is the preferred choice in this level. You can either use him in choke points to buff other units with Courage, or have him somewhere away from the main action to duel enemies 1 on 1. His Shield of Retribution ability, doing true damage to enemies, is very effective against Dark Knights.

Towers[]

  • The best places to organize choke points for enemies are the first path joints, where 2 Imperial Guards are standing on each side of the map. This place is in reach of 4 tower spots, enabling you to use more varied strategies.
  • Remember to place at least 1 Mage Tower on each side to deal with armored enemies, such as Brigands, Marauders and Dark Knights.
  • At the same time, don't get carried away with magic damage. The level also includes a lot of non-armored enemies, using Archer or Artillery towers is generally more cost effective against them.
  • One of The Juggernaut's abilities is shooting projectiles with 7 Golem Heads. He can shoot them to any part of the level before the last path joint. Thus, you need to ensure you have Barracks and Archers / Artillery towers to kill them at the back of the level. These enemies are not very hard to deal with, so you don’t need to organize strong defenses there.
